Main Uses:
Nutritionally beneficial aid to reduce inflammation and improve circulation to affected joints
Providing symptomatic relief for arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gout and sport injuries.
Studies show that boswellia reduces inflammation and may be useful in treating the following conditions:
Osteoarthritis (OA)
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
Asthma
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Crohn’s Disease
Relieves headaches
Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
Cancer
Boswellic acids act in a number of ways that may inhibit cancer growth. Boswellic acids have been shown to prevent certain enzymes from negatively affecting DNA. Studies have also found that boswellia may fight advanced breast cancer cells, and it may limit the spread of malignant leukemia and brain tumor cells. Another study showed boswellic acids to be effective in suppressing the invasion of pancreatic cancer cells. Studies continue and the anti-cancer activity of boswellia is becoming better understood.
Boswellia is traditionally believed to improve learning and memory, reduces the intensity and frequency of headaches in patients with CCH (chronic cluster headache), and could be beneficial in Anxiety and Depression. Boswellia reduces cell viability and induces cell death in human breast cancer cells, bladder cancer cells, pancreatic cancer cells, hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer cells, myeloid leukemia cells, neuroblastoma cells and meningioma.
Use of a cream containing Boswellic acids on facial skin lead to significant improvement in photoaging, tactile roughness, and fine lines, increased elasticity and decreased sebum excretion. Boswellia serrata extract has a soothing effect on irritated skin, reduces redness and irritation and produces an even skin tone. Boswellic acid (AKBA) is an effective topical agent to soften facial lines and relax the skin. Patients with psoriasis, scales, and erythema improved both with a cream containing Boswellic acids.
Frankincense has not shown any severe side effect and is considered to be safe. Safety has not been studied, and therefore cannot be recommended while breast feeding or while pregnant.
